Joseph W. Hovey

Joseph W. Hovey, born on January 7, 1954, departed this life on July 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories.

Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl, who was his steadfast companion and confidante for over 50 years. His memory is also held dear by his children: Matthew, Guinevere, Nicholas, and Alexandra, each of whom was a source of great pride and joy in his life. Joseph’s legacy continues through his beloved grandson, Brayden, whose smiles and laughter brought him endless happiness. His sisters, Joan Kowalski and Janeen Mills, will fondly recall the many moments shared with Joseph over the years. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will greatly miss their uncle’s warm presence.

Joseph was preceded in death by his twin brother, John Hovey, whom he deeply missed.

A devoted Catholic, Joseph’s faith was central to his life and shaped the way he interacted with family, friends, and his community. He found immense enjoyment in life’s simple joys and was known for his enthusiasm for Michigan State sports and the Detroit Tigers, cheering on his teams with unwavering loyalty. Joseph was also a passionate reader, learning and discovering through books.

Joseph’s life was brightened daily by the companionship of his beloved pets: Samson, his faithful napping buddy, along with Delilah and Kinsey, who all brought warmth and comfort to his days.

Joseph W. Hovey’s presence touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His commitment to family, faith, and cherished pursuits leaves a lasting impression on all who mourn his passing and celebrate his memory.

Visitation will take place at The Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm. A rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 25, where Joseph will lie instate from 10:00 am until the mass begins at 11:00 am at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Burial will take place immediately following at Michigan Memorial Park. 

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joseph to The Solanus Casey Center.
