Judith Ann LaFleur (Bodenmiller) of South Rockwood passed away on September 8, 2025, with her family by her side at the Saint Therese, IHM Senior Living Community in Monroe, where she carried the cross of dementia for the final two years of her life.
Judy was born on September 3, 1940, to Doras and Irene Bodenmiller (Schrader) in South Rockwood and was a lifelong Catholic, practicing her faith at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Annunciation, in Rockwood, and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in Newport. Judy married Charles Wyman LaFleur at St. Mary’s on February 11, 1961, and their 64 year union was blessed with their children, Matthew (Becky), James (Elaine), Mary (Michael) Goudreau, Andrew (Debra); 8 grandchildren, Brian (Nicole) LaFleur, Chad (Taylor Fielding) LaFleur, Drake (Samantha) LaFleur, Renee LaFleur, Celeste LaFleur, Faith LaFleur, Claire (Carter) Roush, Ellen LaFleur; 8 great grandchildren, Clara, Charlie, Sophie, Beckett, Tommy, Darcy, Bridget, and Emerson. Judy is also survived by her siblings, Gary (Janet) Bodenmiller, Dennis (Kathy) Bodenmiller, Beth (Greg) Fones, and Timothy (Kimberly) Bodenmiller, and brother-in-law Robert Beck. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Diane (Robert) Beck, and her great grandson, Charlie LaFleur.
Judy graduated from Airport High School in 1958 and later obtained an Associate’s Degree from Monroe Community College. In 1977, Judy accepted a position with the Monroe County Library System as a branch librarian in South Rockwood, a position she held for 28 years. In 2000, Judy was appointed as librarian for the Newport branch, a position she held for the final five years of her career. Judy took joy in fostering a love of reading with her community and was known for her exceptional preschool programming and elaborate craft projects.
Family and faith were the foundation of Judy’s life. She developed a devotion to the Blessed Mother at a young age, participating in a rosary club as a child and young adult, later making pilgrimages to Our Lady of Medjugorje, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Our Lady of Czestochowa at the Jasna Gory Monastery, and the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Poland. Judy was a longtime facilitator for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program at St. Mary’s, assisting dozens of individuals with their discernment and initiation into the Catholic faith.
Judy also found time to travel abroad and domestically with her husband, Chuck. However, most of their time together was spent enjoying quiet moments at home, where Judy took pleasure in reading, knitting beautiful items for her family, and baking.
The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Saint Terese, IHM Senior Living Community, Memory Care Unit, for the compassionate and committed care provided to Judy.
