It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Justin Manuel Berrelez, a beloved firefighter, devoted family member, and cherished friend. Justin was born on February 7, 1988, and departed this world on August 24, 2025. His legacy will forever resonate in the lives he touched and the community he so passionately served.
As a proud member of the Detroit Fire Department, specifically Engine 53 and Ladder 25, Justin exemplified courage and dedication. His commitment to helping others was unwavering; he continually placed the needs of his community and colleagues above his own. He did not seek glory or accolades; rather, he found fulfillment in the act of serving, a trait that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Justin was known not only for his bravery but also for his warmth. His laughter was contagious, brightening every room and uplifting the spirits of his fellow firefighters. Those who gathered around the firehouse knew him as a masterful cook who delighted in preparing meals for huge crowds, turning every shared meal into a joyful occasion filled with stories and camaraderie.
Beyond the firehouse, Justin had a rich tapestry of interests and hobbies that defined his personality. He loved the outdoors, often found fishing, riding his motorcycle or BMX bike, and embarking on four-wheeling adventures. Music was another passion of his; he enjoyed playing both the guitar and drums, creating melodies that echoed his vibrant spirit. He was also a craftsman at heart, relishing in home improvement projects that reflected his creativity and determination.
Justin shared a special bond with his dogs, Buddy, and Little Dog, whose companionship brought him immeasurable joy. He surrounded himself with the affection of his loved ones, including his mother, Doranne Berrelez; brothers, Daniel (April) and Andrew (Jessica); niece, Beyonca; and his loving fiancée, Kiley Leja. The Leja family, including James Leja, Jr. and Ryan Lester, embraced him as one of their own. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom will deeply miss his kind-hearted nature and soulful laughter.
Justin's family and friends remember him not only for his remarkable achievements but also for the tender traits that made him truly special. He was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Berrelez; his nephew, Jackson; and his beloved grandparents, Juan Berrelez, Leonila Berrelez, and Susan Wunderlich.
A visitation to honor Justin's life will take place on Thursday August 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes in Allen Park, MI.
