Karen Smith leaves behind a legacy profoundly woven through her two daughters, Heather (James) Stewart of Ball Ground, Georgia, and Heidi Smith of Wyandotte, Michigan, who were the greatest sources of her pride and joy. Every accomplishment in their lives filled her heart with happiness and reflected the deep bond they shared. She is also remembered with love by her godson, David (Nicole) Miller.
Throughout her life, Karen cultivated enduring friendships with her life-long friends Bonnie, Linda, Margie, Sandy, and Shirley, who stood beside her through every season, sharing laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support. She especially cherished their long-standing lunch dates over the decades, as well as the many friendships she formed and cherished during her lunches at the senior center. These friendships, along with her family, were her greatest loves and sources of strength.
Karen’s beloved grand-dogs—Leia, Pooh, Doodles, Nighthawk, and Zyldjian—held a special place in her heart, bringing her constant joy and smiles. In recent years, she took deep pride and pleasure in her newly owned home in Trenton, lovingly making it her personal happy place. Beyond her home, Karen found great happiness spending summers at the family cottage in Crystal Beach, Canada, a place that brought her peace, cherished memories, and some of her greatest joy.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Audrey Sweitzer, and her dear brother, Robert Sweitzer. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Karen’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at The Trenton Chapel – Martenson Family of Funeral Homes in Trenton, Michigan, beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to celebrate with dinner afterwards at Hungarian Rhapsody's in Southgate
