Kathleen Janice Levens (Hartwell), 78, of Trenton, Michigan, passed away on April, 10, 2026 in the hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan with family at her side.
Born on February 11, 1948 in Wyandotte, Michigan, Kathleen attended Grosse Ile High School and went on to get both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at Indiana University (IU), Bloomington in Library Science. While at IU, Kathleen joined and became a proud member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. With an intrinsic love for books and reading throughout her life, she enjoyed being a librarian and media specialist at the middle school and high school levels as an educator. She previously lived in Greenwood, Bloomington, and Seymour, IN throughout her career before retiring to Michigan. Kathleen will also be remembered for her steadfast pride for IU exemplified by her license plate that read “IU Grad”. Saying that she was extremely proud to see her Hoosiers win the National Championship in football in 2026 is an understatement. Her hobbies included making unique decorative wreaths and blessing others with them to brighten their homes and endlessly studying the history of the Civil War in Virginia.
She is survived by her children, Eric Davis (Elaine) Levens, M.D., Brian James Levens, J.D., and Matthew Kenneth (Jin) Levens; grandchildren - Kathleen was known as Your One and Only Mimi to, Chloe Jolene Levens, Grant Davis Levens, Austen Grace Levens, Zoe Elizabeth Levens, Emersen Virginia Levens; her siblings, Sherry (Jim) Wagner and Douglas (the late Terri) Hartwell. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Joyce Hartwell and her niece Angela Hartwell.
A memorial service is currently being planned in September, 2026 at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church located at 7925 Horse Mill Rd, Grosse Ile, 48138 where Kathleen will be inurned in the Memorial Gardens. Details of the Memorial Service will be provided on the Martenson Funeral Services website when they are finalized.
