Larry "Lawrence" Paul Longfellow, 82, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband to Elaine and a cherished father to Sherri Amann (Manfred) and Kristen Veliz (Jose). Larry took great joy in being a caring grandfather to Nicholas, Patrick, Danielle, Noah, and Olivia. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember his warmth and kindness.
Born in New York City on December 19, 1942, Larry's family moved to Detroit, Michigan, when he was an infant. He grew up in this vibrant city, where he would later thrive through various formidable experiences. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy and served on the Essex aircraft carrier, gaining significant recognition as a radio operator during the pivotal moments of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Larry pursued higher education at Macomb Community College and Eastern Michigan University. His professional journey led him to become a district manager in the circulation department of the Detroit News, which eventually transitioned into the Detroit Newspaper Agency.
Upon retirement, Larry dedicated himself to community service by volunteering at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He found great enjoyment in spending winters at the family condo in Delray Beach, Florida.
