Leonard Ralph Anteau, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on April 30, 1928, in Newport, he was the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Pelkey) Anteau. Leonard married the love of his life, Loretta Girard, on September 25, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockwood. Sadly she preceded him in death September 18, 1998 Leonard lived a life rich in love, kindness, and community.
A carpenter by trade, Leonard proudly owned and operated Newport Home Improvement for 20 years, where he made lasting connections with those he served. Afterward, he continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic by joining Ford Motor Company/Rouge Steel, where he dedicated himself until his retirement. His commitment to hard work was matched only by his dedication to his family and friends.
Leonard's life was marked by his service as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. This time in the military was not just a duty but a proud chapter in his life that demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his country.
Those who knew Leonard can attest to his warm personality and love for storytelling. He had a unique ability to connect with others, always ready with a tale from the past. Known for being a kind, good, simple, and honest man, Leonard touched the lives of many. His favorite pastimes included watching game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, following his beloved Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, and enjoying bowling in his younger years. He found joy in attending tractor shows, high school football games, and sharing friendly games of euchre with friends. Reading the Monroe News was also a cherished hobby that kept him connected to his community.
Leonard was a proud member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, serving as an usher for over 60 years and remained faithful in praying the rosary throughout his life. His commitment to his faith was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him comfort and strength. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the American Legion, reflecting his pride in his military service.
Leonard is survived by his loving children, David (Rosemary) Anteau, Thomas Anteau, and Sandra Anteau. He leaves behind grandchildren Shaun, Rachel, and Michael, as well as great-grandchildren Jonathan and Jackson. His family also includes many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Leonard was predeceased by his son, Michael Anteau; granddaughter, Raelyn; brother, Wilbert; and a sister. These irreplaceable family members hold a special place in the hearts of those who remain and will be forever remembered.
Leonard Ralph Anteau will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on through the stories shared and the many lives he touched during his remarkable journey.
