Leslie "Butch" Jordan

Leslie "Butch" Jordan, 66, of Southgate, Mich., died of lung disease Aug. 10, 2016, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. The son of Alice (Haley) Jordan and Noah Leslie Jordan, he was born April 4, 1950, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He grew up in Dannemora, N.Y., and graduated from Dannemora High School in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam as a member of the Fifth Special Forces Group. He married Diane Poirier in 1971, and worked as a corrections officer for the state of New York for 27 years, most of which were at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. He and Diane opened The Good Egg restaurant in Plattsburgh in 1987, and operated the business until 1992. He loved to write and was a fantastic storyteller. He also loved to fish and hunt, and was a pilot. For a short time, he owned a Cessna he flew out of Adirondack Regional Airport in Saranac Lake. Butch loved baseball and football, and coached his son Patrick's Little League team. When he retired, he moved to Florida, and lived there until 2007, when he and Diane moved to Michigan to be closer to their daughter, Kristen, and her growing family. He is survived by Diane, his wife of 45 years; his daughter, Kristen (Gregory) Shamus; a son, Patrick (Kelly); five grandchildren, Julia, Sarah and Samuel Shamus, Ethan and Nicholas Jordan; nephews Michael and Scott Biegen, and other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Noah Leslie Jordan, and his sister, Susan (Jordan) Heller. A Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 179 Smith St., Dannemora, with a reception to follow in Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Butch's granddaughter's cause, the Kids Fun Run for Paws, which benefits the Grosse Ile Animal Shelter in Michigan. Checks can be made out to T.A.I.L.S, and sent to Sarah Shamus, 21780 Knudsen Dr., Grosse Ile, MI 48138.
