Louise Read

Louise Read, 84, of Trenton, Michigan – a deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2026.

After graduating high school in 1959, Louise earned her R.N. from Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She went on to graduate from Bethany College in West Virginia in 1965, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Education. She worked first as a mother and wife and then as a registered nurse at numerous locations, finally serving as the School Nurse for the Woodhaven School District, until retiring in 2003.

Louise was dedicated to her Christian faith throughout her life. She attended the United Church of Christ in Gibraltar with her family for many years until moving to Trenton and becoming a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church always encouraging her family to grow in their own faith.

She and late husband, George cherished traveling together to explore history, scenery, and wildlife throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. Together they loved camping, vacationing, and being deeply involved in the lives of their children and grandchildren.

Louise is preceded in death by her devoted husband, George, and her parents, Walter and Mary Jane Bates.

She is survived by those she loved, raised, and influenced: her children David (Jeanne), Laura (Thomas Shonk), Thomas, and Jeffrey (Mary); her brother David Bates (Pat); her granddaughter Kristin (Kodi Sander); her grandsons Thomas J. Shonk, Grant Read, Nicholas Read (Kylee), Alex Read, and Andrew Read; and her great-grandchildren Adley, Ember Sander, and Magnolia Read.

Our dearly loved one is now at rest. Please continue to remember the good times shared with her, the lessons she taught, her positive influence, and—most of all—her selflessness in always placing the happiness and needs of others before her own, and the joy that gave her.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, followed by the Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2550 Edsel St., Trenton, MI 48183. The family invites everyone to join them for a luncheon immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the fund of choice at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trenton, or to Blood Cancer United.
