Margaret Rose Runkle

Listen to Obituary

Margaret Rose was born June 19th, 1938. She was the youngest child of the late Richard and Ivy Axford. At sixteen years old, she met Jack Runkle when her brother-in-law convinced Jack to meet “his cousin from New Mexico.” What started out as a fib by a matchmaking friend led to a love story spanning seven decades. Margaret and Jack married on May 25th, 1957, and spent their life together putting their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the center of their marriage. They longed more than anything for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to know and love God.

Margaret’s main focus was raising her children when they were young, but as her children grew older, she worked as a secretary at Inter-City Christian School. After leaving the school, she worked as a secretary in the administration area of The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village in the 1990s.

Margaret deeply loved her family—especially her grandchildren. She and Jack were actively involved in the grandchildren’s lives and supported their many interests and hobbies.

Margaret and Jack were faithful members of Inter-City Baptist Church in Allen Park, Michigan, and served there in many ways throughout the years. They always looked to the Bible and studied it, and were always able to answer their grandchildren’s questions regarding pretty much any topic.

Later in life, Margaret began struggling physically, but her faith in her Heavenly Father remained strong despite her body growing weaker.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years (Jack), her children Ron (Sandi), Jim (Lori), Karen (John) Schnebelt; her grandchildren Kellie, Stephanie (John) Garner, Michael (Jessie) Schnebelt, Eric (Erika) Runkle, Jaime (Jim) Jenkins, Matthew (Chioma) Schnebelt, Whitney (Shane) Flynn, Lauren (Zach) Runkford, and Kristin (Jacob) Saldivar, as well as great-grandchildren Aili, James, Liam, Leah, Eden, Micah, Gabriel, Evelyn, Zoey, Elijah, and Colin Jack.

Memorial contributions in Margaret's name may be made to Inter-City Baptist High School, 4700 Allen Rd., Allen Park, MI 48101

John 14:1-3, 6

Do not let your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you because I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be. Jesus said to him [Thomas], “I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”
