Mariette Ann Burnard, age 93, of Monroe passed away on May 6, 2026 in Monroe. Born February 14, 1933, she was the daughter of Maurice and Adeline (DeClerq) Willaert.
After graduating in 1951 from St. Mary Academy High School, she became engaged and then married the love of her life, Roland E. Burnard on February 17, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church. They were married 66 years until Roland's passing April 23, 2019.
When Roland returned from the Korean War in 1954, they moved to Springfield, IL where Roland helped in the family electrical business while Mariette worked for the John Hancock Insurance Agency. They returned home to Monroe in 1961 and Mariette became a full time homemaker.
Mariette and Roland enjoyed camping, casinos, travel-especially in retirement, and spending many weekends with friends and family playing games, cards and entertaining in their home often. Mariette rarely missed a chance to reconnect with her St. Mary classmates at class reunions.
Mariette's family include children Alan R. Burnard of Monroe and Jean M. (Steven) Burnard-Roberts of Canton, MI. Grandchildren: Phillip A. Burnard of Monroe, Sarah C. (Matthew) Millar of Warren, MI, Elena M. Roberts of Canton, MI and Christian J. Roberts of Canton, MI. Great grandchildren: Reagan Burnard of Monroe, Alexander Burnard of Delta, OH and Ronan Millar of Warren, MI. Sister-in-law, Yvonne (Bill) Congealose of Monroe.
Mariette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roland, sister Mary (Robert) McMullen and sister Marian Willaert.
Memorial contributions in honor of Mariette may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
The family will receive friends on Saturday May 16, 2026 from 10:30am until time of Service 11:30am at the Allore Chapel- Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 203 E Elm, Monroe, MI 48162
