Marty Perkins

With profound sorrow and immense gratitude for the life he lived, we announce the sudden passing of Marty Perkins, who left this world unexpectedly on August 4, 2026, in Grosse Ile Township, Michigan. Born in Detroit on May 22, 1939, Marty devoted eighty-seven years to working hard, loving deeply, and building a legacy that will not fade.

Marty was a steadfast pillar of strength to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Raised by his parents, George and Anna Perkins, Marty was instilled from an early age with the virtues of integrity, honesty, and grit. These values guided his every step—whether serving his country as a proud U.S. Army veteran or as the enterprising owner of his own poured concrete company. Marty was, in every sense, the embodiment of a self-made man. Tireless, devoted, and precise, he approached every challenge with a can-do spirit that inspired all who knew him.

As a craftsman, Marty was especially proud of the cabin he built with his own hands in Johannesburg, Michigan—a refuge nestled Up North, surrounded by the nature he so dearly loved. It was there that he would often find peace, enjoying the great outdoors and sharing the tranquility with friends and family. Animals always found a gentle friend in Marty, whose kind heart opened easily to creatures great and small, but he was especially fond of dogs.

His love for community was most evident in his connections at Rocky’s Roadhouse, where time spent with his crew became a cherished chapter of his life. Marty’s friendships ran deep and true—if you were lucky enough to call him friend, you could always count on him, no questions asked. He had an honest, straightforward manner and never shied from telling it like it was, often punctuating his advice with a smile and his unique brand of humor.

Marty’s strength was matched only by his immense generosity. He would never hesitate to lend a hand, fix what was broken, or show up in times of need. His family was his ultimate pride: his beloved son Thomas Perkins, who survives him, and his adored grandchildren Sydney (Christian Magallanes), Gillian Perkins, and Zachary Perkins (Sydney Molter). These four were the shining lights of his life, and their memories together are treasures that will endure long beyond parting.

He is also survived by his brother Butch and sister Louise, with whom he shared lifelong bonds, and a circle of dear neighbors and friends including Pat and Randy Ferguson, Jeff and Erica Baxter, and the Douglas family. Their stories and laughter echo through the places Marty loved most.

Though Marty is now reunited with his wife Ann T. Perkins; his parents; his sisters Emily and Mary; and his brothers Joseph and Raymond, his presence remains alive in the hearts he touched. His legacy is one of hard work, honesty, and boundless love—an inheritance richer than gold.

In this time of loss, we remember Marty as a man who never stopped working, loving, or giving. The world is quieter without his voice, but richer for having known him. He leaves behind a family strengthened by his example and friends emboldened by his loyalty.

Cremation arrangements honoring Marty’s extraordinary life have been entrusted to the Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 3200 West Road.
