Mary Evans, a cherished member of her family and community, passed away peacefully at her home in Trenton, Michigan on January 29, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on April 15, 1944, in Delray, Michigan, she made a significant impact throughout her life, both as a devoted family member and educator.

Mary dedicated 33 years of her life to the Wyandotte Public School System, where she not only shaped young minds but also fostered a love for learning that echoed beyond the classroom. She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge, Michigan, in 1962 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, alongside a Master’s in education from Eastern Michigan University. Her commitment to education was matched only by her dedication to her faith, as she was an active, long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton, serving as an usher for many years.

Throughout her lifetime, she demonstrated an unwavering strength and a warm spirit that touched all who knew her. Mary was deeply involved in her community, often visiting the Solanus Casey Center and serving as an usher at the iconic Fox Theater. Her role in the Woodhaven Kiwanis was just another testament to her commitment to service and connection with others.

Mary’s love for her family radiated brightly in every aspect of her life. She was married to her beloved husband, Fred, for 57 beautiful years, after they exchanged vows on June 21, 1968. Together, they experienced countless vacations filled with joy and laughter, which were often highlighted by time spent at the Casino. Mary embraced her role as a mother and grandmother wholeheartedly, adoring her grandchildren—Molly, Conner, Parker, Sophia, and Nolan—and actively participating in their lives to create lasting memories.

She is survived by her husband Fred, son Jason Evans (Sherri Myers), daughter Darlene (Steve) Wisniewski, sister-in-law Bernadette Thompson, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her vibrant presence.

Mary’s journey in this life was marked by the loving support of her family, as well as the memories shared with close friends, whose bonds enriched her life. She is now reunited with her parents, Stephen Andrew Thompson and Rose Rebecca (Texter) Thompson, and her siblings: Ruth Guarino, John (Dorothy) Thompson, James Thompson, and Ann (Jerry) Moody.
