Mary Hunter

Mary Louise (Smith) Hunter, born on January 06, 1962 in Trenton, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan at the age of 60 from organ failure after a lengthy uterine cancer surgery.

Mary is survived by her daughter Sarah Hunter, son Jesse Smith, daughter Shaina (Hunter) Skok, daughter Miranda McCurry, son Dylan Hunter and grandchildren Archer, Eleanora and Ryan.

She is further survived by her sisters and brothers Margarette (Smith) Pence, Harvey Smith, Roger Smith, William Smith, Gale Smith, Garnet (Smith) Warnke, Valerie (Smith) Hollingsworth, Clayton Smith, Gary Smith, Wendy (Smith) Smith, Cynthia (Smith) Giffen, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Hunter, father Elmer Smith, mother Lila (Bower) Smith, brothers Lawrence Smith, Wayne Smith, Elmer Guy Smith, Clement Smith and Leon Smith.

Mary had the unique privilege of never moving out of her birth home. Shortly after high school graduation she married and remained in her childhood home until her passing. She carried on the legacy her mother created of having an open door policy to any and all family members, friends, neighbors and the like. Everyone knew through those years if they needed ANYTHING that was the place to go to be welcomed as family.

Mary will be remembered for many traits. She was your "go to" person for any home remedies or natural healing concoctions. If you were hungry she fed you, and fed you well, with dishes like her homemade biscuits and gravy or chicken pot pie followed up with brownie delights for dessert. Mary gave and gave of her time, talents and resources, many times even to the detriment of her own circumstances so often. Sarcasm was her middle name even when it frustrated you to not get a real answer after multiple attempts. She could be bossy, loud and scream to scare the life out of you! Her sense of humor is what sustained her and those around her.

Last and most assuredly not least was Mary's unwavering commitment to her faith in Jesus Christ. So many people had their first and possibly only introduction to church or God through Mary. When and if she was able, she was at the church for all functions as a volunteer or an attendee. She would want you to know she knew her Lord and Savior and is rejoicing with Him this day!

Memorial service with brunch being served will be held at her home at 436 Harrison Ave Trenton Mi on Saturday October 22nd at 12pm
