Mary Therese Methven

Methven, Mary Therese, age 86, August 9, 2018, formerly of Dearborn Heights. Beloved wife of the late Gerald. Loving mother of Karen (Thomas) Aliber and Karla (Rusty) Scott. Proud grandmother of Kendall (Jason) Stortz, Jamie Scott, Kirsten Aliber, Tracy Scott. Cherished daughter of the late Bernadette Schmidt (Charboneau) and John Schmidt. Dearest sister of Ralph Schmidt, Richard Schmidt, the late Dolores DiBiase, the late, Bernard Schmidt, the late Marjorie Loranger and the late Raymond Schmidt. Visitation, Monday 2-8 PM, Rosary (led by St. Albert senior group), Monday 3:00 PM and Vigil service, Monday 7:00PM at the Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd. (North of Goddard). In state, Tuesday, 9:30 AM until funeral Mass, 10 AM at St. Alphonsus-St. Clement Catholic Parish, Dearborn. Interment Our Lady of Hope Cemetery. Growing up Mary took dance lessons from the Ricardeau studio and performed in many shows across the Great Lakes region including the Talent on parade. She graduated from Holy Redeemer in Detroit. She married Jerry (Gerald) on August 12, 1950. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She loved to sew and many nights when Jerry came home the girls were dressed in new outfits. The family spent many summers at Caseville, MI enjoying friendships at the beach and bonfires. She was an active grandparent enjoying school activities, vacations and holidays with them. She ensured her grandchildren would be able to make some of her favorite recipes for their families such as: apple pie and meat pie (a family Christmas tradition). Mary was a member of the St. Albert Rosary Society and Seniors. She later joined St. Alphonsus-St. Clement Parish when she moved to Henry Ford Village. She loved games whether they were on television, with friends, grandchildren or at the casino. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed golf. Mary continued her dancing, always enjoying a good polka at wedding celebrations. She also loved a good joke and would share them with her friends, family and doctors who took care of her during the last challenging years. I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me, and always she was correct. But it was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!"
