Maxwell Orren Thomas, a devoted son, cherished brother, and esteemed friend, passed away on February 12th, 2026, in Newport, MI, at the age of 41. Born on April 14th, 1984, Maxwell's life was marked by his passion for aviation, a deep love for the outdoors, and a commitment to family and friends.

Maxwell was educated at Jefferson High School, where he graduated in 2002 and was on the football and swim team. He furthered his education at the Michigan Institute of Aeronautics (Airframe and Powerplant), earning a Maintenance Technology Degree on June 4, 2004. His dedication to his profession was evident throughout his 20-year career at Skywest, where he served as a Supervisor of Mechanic Maintenance. His colleagues recognized him not only for his technical skills but also for his leadership and unwavering work ethic.

Outside of his professional life, Maxwell was a man of varied interests and hobbies. He found joy in boating, fishing, and spending time under the sun, often immersing himself in the tranquil beauty of nature. An avid bird enthusiast and hunter, he enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dog, Jack. Maxwell also delighted in working on cars and airplanes, showcasing his talent for mechanics. Cooking for friends and family brought him immense satisfaction, as he loved to share meals and create memories around the dinner table.

Maxwell is survived by his parents, Orren and Janice (Read) Thomas; his brother Mitchell, along with his sister-in-law Cyndi and nieces Ashlynn and Aubrey; his aunt Diane Read; his partner Cassie Smith; and many other relatives and friends who will dearly miss his presence in their lives. He is preceded in death by his brother Michael, his grandparents, and his loyal dog Jack.

Maxwell's spirit and legacy will undoubtedly live on through the lives he touched with his kindness, laughter, and adventurous spirit. As we remember him, we celebrate a life that exemplified dedication to family, passion for his work, and love for the great outdoors.

A celebration of life will take place Sunday April 12, 2026 at Swan Boat Club 6332 Brancheau St, Newport, MI 48166 from Noon-4pm. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to P.A.T.H. (Passing Along The Heritage) Foundation of Michigan, where Max was a dedicated volunteer.
