Michael J. Bennett

With heavy hearts and loving memories, we announce the passing of Michael J. Bennett, who left us on July 27, 2026, at the age of 77. Born December 4, 1948 in Detroit, he was the son of Jack and Dorothy (Neve) Bennett. Michael’s journey through life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his family, his work, and his community, leaving an enduring presence in the lives of all who knew him.

Michael’s early years set the foundation for a lifetime of achievement and service. He graduated from Cabrini High School before furthering his education at Wayne State University, earning his undergraduate degree. His passion for learning guided him to obtain a Masters of Science from Mercy University Detroit—a testament to his dedication and drive to excel. He was married to Linda Bourassa who sadly preceded him in death in 2003.

For over 35 years, Michael served as an engineer at Chrysler Corporation, where he was known for his expertise, integrity, and the quiet diligence with which he approached each challenge. His colleagues knew him as a man who took pride in his work, and as someone who contributed to the success of the company with both intellect and heart. Upon retiring in 2007, Michael left behind not just a respected professional legacy, but deep friendships that endured far beyond his career.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael’s devotion to his community and faith shone brightly. He was a dedicated member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Rockwood, where his generous spirit led him to serve on the Parish Council. His involvement extended to membership in the Knights of Columbus, and he was an engaged and trusted presence in local government as a member of the Rockwood City Council, even serving as Mayor Pro Tem.

Those closest to Michael knew him as an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan, a passion that brought him joy through victories and solace through difficult seasons. Whether cheering in the stands or sharing the highlights with loved ones, baseball was a thread woven through countless family moments and friendships.

Michael’s love for his family was unwavering. He will be forever cherished by his son Michael (Tara) Bennett, his brother Jack (Lynn)Bennett and his sister Paulette (Stanley) Heide as well as nieces and nephews: Jeremy (Rachel) Heide. Jodie (Michael) Roden, Tracie (Vaughn) Jurgens and Allison Eanes. They, along with all whose lives Michael touched, will miss his wisdom, kindness, and gentle humor. He now joins his beloved daughter, Angenette Bennett, whose memory he held close to his heart.

While Michael’s absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, the love, strength, and grace he gifted to the world remain a source of comfort and inspiration for all who had the privilege of loving him. His was a life well lived, and his memory will endure in the stories, laughter, and shared moments that will forever illuminate the lives of his family and friends.
