Michael Raymond Gonyea, of Monroe, passed away on November 29, 2022, at age 63. Proud father of Andrew (Fiancé Erin) Gonyea and Lauren (Steven) Saunders. Loving son of educators Roberta Spoehr Gonyea and Raymond Gonyea. Dear older brother of David Gonyea, Sheryl (Eugene) Polski, Michelle (Christopher) Sorensen and Andrea (Damon) Cseh. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. Mike grew up in Rockwood and attended St. Mary Catholic School and Monroe Catholic Central High School before graduating from Gibraltar Carlson High School in 1977. An avid athlete, he was a three sport letterman in football, basketball, and baseball, and played second base for Carlson High School’s 1977 state championship winning baseball team. Mike then attended Ferris State University, where he met his wife of over 25 years, Jacqueline Guyette (divorced), and earned a B.A. in Business Administration in 1981. He went on to build a successful career as an advertising executive at J. Walter Thompson in Detroit, where he last held the position of director of planning and strategic services for the agency’s international Ford group. Mike passed on his love of sports to his children, coached several of their youth teams, and was always on the sidelines ready to cheer them on. He was also a creative person who enjoyed reading and writing in his spare time. Mike will be remembered by his family and loved ones for his ready smile, kind-heartedness, intelligence, and faith.
