Mona Decaminada

With hearts full of love and sorrow, we remember Mona Decaminada, née Maynard, who passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2026, in Allen Park, Michigan, just days before her 64th birthday. Mona was born on August 26, 1962, in Ypsilanti, Michigan—a city that would see her begin a life defined by generosity, thoughtfulness, and care for others.

Those fortunate enough to know Mona knew that she wasn’t without struggles but can attest that the phrase “she would give the shirt off her back” was more than just words for her—it was a daily truth. Mona’s kind spirit and her unwavering willingness to support others left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered. She took the time to check in with her loved ones, always asking, “How can I make your day better?” It was never just a question; it was a reflection of her life’s purpose: to bring comfort and happiness to those around her.

She is deeply missed by her devoted daughter Amanda (Jason) Iaconelli, her son Travis Decaminada, and her cherished granddaughter Paige Iaconelli, whose lives continue to be shaped by Mona’s endless care and wisdom. Mona was a steadfast daughter to Lewis Maynard, Jr., who survives her, and she held the memory of her late mother, Sarilynne, and stepfather, John Shady, close to her heart. Her extended family mourns her loss and celebrates her memory: her niece Leanne Bear, nephew Jeremy Maynard, great-nieces Liliana, Isabelle, and Zoe Maynard-Smith, great-nephew James Maynard, great-great nephew Elliot Rieman, beloved childhood best friend Karen Baker... as well as many other family members.

Mona’s professional life was spent as a paralegal at numerous law firms—a role well-suited to her detail-oriented mind and relentless desire to help others. Her educational journey included some college, and though her path was marked by both accomplishment and humility, it was her warmth, guidance, and heartfelt actions that defined her legacy rather than titles or degrees.

Mona’s home was filled with laughter from reality shows and the affectionate presence of her adored cats, JoJo and Raja, who were among her greatest comforts. She celebrated life’s small moments, finding joy and humor every day, and infusing her world with compassion for every creature that entered it.To all who loved her, Mona’s absence leaves an ache that words can scarcely describe, but her memory is a guiding light that softens even the heaviness of grief. The values she lived—unconditional kindness, deep empathy, selfless giving—now echo through the stories we share, and the memories we hold dear.

Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Mona are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Ridge Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes, 2272 W Jefferson Ave, Trenton, MI. A funeral service will be held at the same location at 4:00 p.m. 

Together, we will honor Mona’s life, her legacy, and the indelible mark she leaves on us all.As we say goodbye, we remember Mona Decaminada not only for the life she led, but for the love she gave—her presence, her care, her words, and her actions, all of which will be cherished always.
