Donald R. McDermott, age 86, of Lambertville, MI formerly of Monroe, passed away Friday August 1, 2014 at Mercy Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Don was born October 15, 1927 in Dennison, Ohio to George H. "Doc" and Hazel (Staneart) McDermott. Don graduated from Monroe High School in 1945, where he was on the swim team in High School. Don proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy where he studied engineering; he was able to take the Honor Flight to Washington DC in May of 2013. Don at one time was married to the former Jennie DuVall, who preceded him in death. Don was an avid hunter, he enjoyed fishing, playing euchre, visiting and reading to shut-ins, he was a life member of Monroe Boat Club and he was a Gallon Donor for the American Red Cross Blood Donor's. Don was employed for many years as a salesman for Consolidated Paper Company and Modern Packaging. Don is survived by his children, John McDermott of LaSalle, MI, Rebecca (Thomas) Billmaier of LaSalle, MI and Laura (Brian) Case of Ida, MI; grandchildren, Brooke Billmaier, Andrew Case, Alex Case and Joshua McDermott; sisters, Jeanne Woods of Monroe, MI and Amelia (Allen) Dotson of Kingman, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
