Prather, Ernest Harold, age 93 of Newport, passed away under the care of ProMedica Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, OH, August 10, 2016 after a long battle with Dementia. Born July 30, 1923 in Detroit, MI. Ernest married Kathleen Ida Shoemaker of Newport October 25, 1946. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this October. Ernest is also survived by his three daughters Jeani (John) Campbell of Hemet, California, Jackie (Mick) Wilson of Monroe, Laurie (Rick) Vasquez of Carleton, and son David (Virginia) Prather of Gibraltar. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren Peter Campbell of California, Stacey (Michael) LaVoie of Monroe, Mathew (Fran) Lazette of Detroit, Brad (Nicole) Bass of Newport, Carrie (Jason) Sanger of Weston, FL, Kyle Bass of Monroe, Christy (Kyle) Taylor of Newport, Alex Vasquez of Monroe, Arielle Vasquez of Carleton, and 8 great grandchildren Mackenzie, Tyler, Brooke, Ella, Sophia, Mila, Mason, and Benjamin. He is also survived by a sister Imojean (Ken) Springs of Rotunda, FL, and a brother Stanley (Diane) Prather of Westland. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 other siblings. He graduated high school from River Rouge in 1943 and served in the United States Army from April 1943 until February 1946. He was employed by Detroit Edison for over 37 years before retiring in 1988. He enjoyed studying the Bible, building, and spending time with his wife and family. Visitation Friday 2-8pm and Saturday from 10am until time of Service 11am, at the Allore Chapel- Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 203 E. Elm, Monroe. Interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ProMedica Hospice.
