Carolyn L. McAninch, age 72, of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Fountain View of Monroe, she had been in declining health for three years and seriously ill for six months. Carolyn was born March 10, 1942 in Monroe, daughter of Alvin Lee and Margret (Stepp) Mathes; she graduated from Monroe High School in 1960. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN as well as a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Carolyn married Alan R. McAninch May 12, 1973 in Monroe. Carolyn enjoyed reading and studying family genealogy, sewing was a lifelong passion. She was especially proud of the many costumes she created for the Monroe High School Music Department's annual Madrigal Dinner. Serving as a volunteer and secretary for Heartbeat of Monroe was a source of great joy for her. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alan of Monroe; son James (Sara) McAninch of Columbus, IN; brother, Alvin Robert (Barbara) Mathes of Mankato, MN; nephews, Jonathan Mathes of Minneapolis, MN, Jeremy, Justin and Jared Mathes of Mankato, MN and Joel Mathes of Anchorage, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents.
