Myrna Lynne (Schlee) Walters, a cherished matriarch and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on November 8th, 1936, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Earl and Eleanor (Beyers) Schlee. Myrna lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community.
A proud 1954 graduate of Holy Redeemer Catholic High School, Myrna married the love of her life, Robert L. Walters, on April 12th, 1958. Sadly, he preceded her in death September 19th, 2017. Myrna embarked on a career as an Administrative Assistant at Monsanto, Great Lakes Steel and Diversey Chemical Company, where she was known for her diligence and commitment. Her professional life, however, was only one facet of a woman who defined herself through her support for her family.
Myrna was not only a caring mother but also a treasured friend, leaving behind a legacy that includes her children: Lauren (Laura DeSantis) Walters, Jeff (Monique) Walters, Julie (Tim) O'Dell, and Michael (Barbra Kootsillas) Walters. She was the proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren, Jeremy, Daniel, Edmond, Camille, Robert, Michael, Kate, Tim, Amanda, Brendan, and Noah as well as a great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren, Delia, Loralei, Paulette, Liam, Claire, and Spencer, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Throughout her life, Myrna made significant contributions to her beloved community. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and took pride in her involvement with the Knights of Columbus Council 13475 on Grosse Ile. Her love of golf, bowling, travel, her cats, and all forms of wildlife extended to her memberships in the West Shore Country Club, GIGCC, GIYC, GI Garden Club, Nomads and The Red Hats Society where she fostered lasting friendships and enriched the lives of those around her.
Myrna Lynne (Schlee) Walters leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will remain alive in the hearts of her family and friends, and the stories shared in her honor.
