Nancy Jean Laura, age 89 of Rockwood, a devoted homemaker and cherished matriarch, peacefully departed this life on November 23, 2025. Born on November 5, 1936 in Monroe, Nancy was the daughter of Sylvester and Hilda (Baumeister) Cookson. Her journey through life was marked by her unwavering love for her family and her countless contributions as a nurturing presence in their lives.
Nancy’s devotion to her family was the cornerstone of her existence. A proud mother to her five beloved children—Brian (Sue), Bruce, Kerri (Bob) Saunders, Karl, and Mike (Julie)—she instilled the values of kindness, hard work, and compassion in each of them. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who carry forward the bright spark of her spirit.
Beyond her role as a mother, Nancy was known for her passion for cooking, baking delightful treats that brought her loved ones together around the dinner table, where laughter and stories echoed against the backdrop of her cozy home. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and cherished her quiet moments spent with a good book, often found immersed in stories that ignited her imagination. Her interests were simple yet profound, reflecting a life rooted in the joy of everyday moments and shared experiences.
A faithful member of Woodland Church, Nancy found solace and strength in her faith. This community was an extension of her family, where bonds were formed through worship and service. She reaped joy from attending church functions and participating in activities that allowed her to connect with others, further manifesting her warm and welcoming spirit.
She is survived by her adoring family, including her brother Carl Cookson, nieces Jemmie Cookson-Barry and Maschel (Jason) Rawlings, who will forever cherish the moments they spent with her. Nancy Jean Laura will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who had the privilege of sharing in her beautiful life.
