After a hard fought battle with cancer for five years, our beloved Nancy passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 16, 2025, at the age of 64. Nancy was born on June 12th, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, son Anthony (Jessica), and beautiful grandchildren Harrison and Isla.
She met and married the love of her life, Michael, in 1987 and together they enthusiastically traveled wherever and whenever they could, seeking vibrant experiences wherever they went, especially the beach. A graduate of Aquinas High School in Southgate, Nancy went on to work at Manufacturer's Bank in Detroit, then moved to the Renaissance Club, also in Detroit where she enjoyed working first as a server and was promoted to floor director.
Later in life, Nancy worked at Henry Ford (Allegria) Village Retirement Community from 2011, until 2023 as the Activity Coordinator. She loved and excelled at facilitating and arranging all-things-fun for her residents, who loved her dearly.
Nancy loved children and cared lovingly for her son and often the children of friends and family whenever she could, matching their joy and exuberance with every step. She loved people and had a true gift for hospitality. She welcomed all into her home and always made sure you were well fed and entertained! Nancy had a passion for life and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ openly and without apology. She had the heart of an evangelist and took every opportunity to tell others of the great love and grace of her Lord. She has given her life to His service, and by her example, has raised a wonderful family to do the same.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mario and Anna Cortese, her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Deuparo, nephew John Stephen Scanland, and her niece Vada Rose Cortese.
Viewing and services - Viewing will be held at the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes - Allen Park Chapel on Thursday, November 20th, 2025, from 2 pm - 8 pm. She will be in-state at Inter-City Baptist Church on Friday, November 21st, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by Service and a luncheon at the church. Burial will follow at Michigan Memorial Cemetery, 30895 W. Huron River Dr., Flat Rock, MI 48134.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reaching & Teaching for Southeast Asia to honor Nancy's love and desire to further the advance of the Gospel across the globe. https://rtim.org/about-us/our-staff/southeast-asia-ak/
