Patrick Henry Bess

Patrick Henry Bess, age 95, of Grosse Ile, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2026 with
loved ones at his side.He was born on May 4, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Harry and Cecelia Bess. Patrick proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1949-1952. After his honorable discharge from military service he worked many years as a rigger for US National Steel.Patrick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered for his quiet kindness, humor, and generosity. He loved to keep busy working with his hands long after his retirement. He used his many amazing skills and talents to design and build a multitude of projects, ranging from the zipline enjoyed by his grandchildren at the summer cottage to the homes he single-handedly built, especially their beautifully crafted home on Grosse Ile. He enjoyed traveling adventures with his wife Patricia, family gatherings, and summer vacations spent with family at the Traverse City cottage. He cherished the time spent with his young grandchildren who delighted in his playful spirit.He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Dawn, stepdaughter Julie (Rian), stepson John(Sharon), grandchildren Kayla, Stefanie (Brandon), Ryan (Dagny), Jillian, and Nick, and great-grandchildren Violet and Holland.He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Cecilia, siblings Ralph and Fay, and son-in-law Stephen.The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Henry Ford Home Hospice and Loving Care Home Care for the compassionate support they provided.A small private memorial will be planned for a future date.Patrick Bess will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
