Paula Barbas (née Kelepouris) passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 100. Born on April 12, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, Paula was a cherished presence in the lives of her family and friends for a full century.
Paula is survived by her daughter, Eleftheria (the late Richard) Terry, and her sons, Johnie (Marie) Barbas and Michael Barbas. She will be remembered by her six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Paula’s unwavering love and commitment to her family were hallmarks of her character and will serve as an enduring legacy.
Paula’s journey began in Detroit, where her early years were shaped by a strong sense of community and the values imparted to her by her family. Over the decades, she cultivated meaningful relationships and found joy in the everyday moments spent with those she loved most. At four years old she moved to Greece and returned on her own at eighteen.
The family invites friends and loved ones to honor Paula’s memory on Monday, August 25, 2026. An instate will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, located at 16300 Dix Toledo Road in Southgate, Michigan, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
Paula Barbas will be remembered as a devoted mother, a respected community member, and a beloved friend. Her centennial life serves as an inspiration to all who knew her, and her presence will be deeply missed.
