Phil McGuire

James “Phil” McGuire, passed away suddenly on April 12, 2026. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, family members and dear friends. Phil’s life was defined by faith and a devotion to the people he cared about. He dedicated his life to helping others in any and every way he could. Mentoring, educating or just lending a helping hand, Phil has left a lasting legacy that touched many lives.

Phil was an avid sportsman whose love of hunting was only surpassed by his love for family and friends. He was committed to sharing his love of the outdoors and outdoor safety with the young people of this generation through mentoring and formal teaching.

He was a highly respected civil engineer with extensive experience in the design and construction oversight of traffic, roadway, and bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects. In his previous roles with Wayne County Department of Public Services in Engineering and Road Maintenance Divisions, he collaborated closely with community leaders, public agencies and advocacy groups to advance meaningful infrastructure improvements across Southeast Michigan.

After retiring from Wayne County, Phil accepted a position with Michael Baker International. Through his work there over the last seven years, and throughout his 30-year career, Phil’s work reflected his deep commitment to public service and to building safer, more connected communities. His loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working with him.

Phil carried the values instilled in him from a young age throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
