Richard 'Dick' Lamar Brown

For decades Grandpa Brown has told us this day was coming…we kind of thought he was going to outlive us all. With heavy hearts, but also with much thankfulness for the Hope we have in what Jesus accomplished on the cross, and overcame in the grave, Richard Lamar “Dead-eye Dick” Brown is now with his Savior. Grandpa was always a jokester. Starting with telling you where he was from, by saying, “a bottle of beer, a big nanny, I’m from Elkhart, Indianny.” He had several more witty comments that poor grandma had to hear over and over again, including the story of how he first met Marge, his wife of 73 years; “I was minding my own business playing ball in the gym, and the yell leaders came in the gym, and your grandma was a yell leader.” He enjoyed playing card games, which he was fantastic at—probably learning all the tricks while working several years for the railroad. He’d always have a silly comment which was an obvious cheat to his euchre partner…that was only funny when he was your teammate. Then he’d follow it up and say, “well, my mother always told me, only cheat if you have to.” He was a miserable Cubs fan, and cheered for anyone who played against Notre Dame. Grandpa did treat some with extra love and kindness…animals, including his late dog Mitzie & cat Toby, or “Tobias” as he would fondly call him. Grandpa loved and was loved by so many, including his wife Marge, three sons, Ron, Gary, and Greg, nine grandchildren, many great grand children, and his first great-great grandchild is due in February. We all will miss his endearing sense of humor, his phone calls to check-in on how life is going and tell us he was praying for us, but we look forward to joining him in Heaven one day to sing praises to our Savior together. Richard Lamar Brown was born in Elkhart, Indiana on July, 9 1928. He peacefully passed away on November 30, 2021 in Taylor, Michigan. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie; his children Ronald Brown, Gary (Roxann) Brown, and Gregory (Susan) Brown. He was adored by his grandchildren; Tracee Veenstra, Katey Brown, Allison (William Joseph) Golden, and Meredith (Ward) Prain, Andrew (Lori) Brown, Jason (Chrissy) Brown, Megan (Kaleb) Weaver, David (Megan) Brown and Jeffrey (Heather) Brown. Loved by his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn (Justin) Conn, Macaulley Golden, Rory Brown, Griffin Golden, Aiden Golden, Caroline Prain, Allexis Golden, Charlotte Prain, Emma (Nathan) Knee, Alexandra (Drew) Benson, Sydney (Jake) Saghi, Abbey Brown, Becca Brown, and Reese Brown. He is survived by the newest member of the family, his great-great granddaughter Stella Conn. He also leaves behind his sister Marge.
