Robert "Bob" Bateman, born on June 10, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on July 1, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy within the local community and an enduring impact on the lives he touched throughout his 77 years. Bob dedicated 44 years of his life to serving the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public Schools, culminating his career as the first principal of Allendale Elementary, a role in which he not only led but also contributed to the design of the school itself. His commitment to education and his unwavering passion for nurturing the young minds of his community will be fondly remembered by countless students and colleagues.

Bob was a devoted family man, survived by his beloved children, Melissa (Kevin) Beers and Alicia (Joseph) Pizzo. As a proud grandfather, he cherished his role as "Papa" or "Paw" to his grandchildren: Griffin Beers, Gage Beers, Gideon Beers, Gibson Beers, and Josie Pizzo. His love extended to his granddogs, Marcellus and Wendy, who brought joy into his life.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bob was known for his enthusiastic involvement in various sports coaching roles and for his unwavering support at his grandchildren's athletic events and performances. Bob also played an active role in the Melvindale community, contributing generously to initiatives like the Goodfellows, and was a dedicated member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. His evenings were often spent unwinding with crime dramas and various sports on TV, delighting in the excitement they provided.

Bob is survived by his siblings: Karen Bateman, Brenda (Jim) Herald, and Doreen (Gary) Patino, as well as his brother-in-law, Tom (Noreen) Stevenson, and sisters-in-law, Debbie Thomas (Bob Allan), and Michele Stevenson.
