Robert William Matulonis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Ecorse, Michigan, on December 5, 1938, he was the son of Charles and Regina (Bardoni) Matulonis. Robert married the love of his life, Joanne Oziem, on November 30, 1957. He lived a life rich in love, hard work, and a commitment to his family and community.
Robert dedicated over 40 years of his life to the Ford Motor Company, where he served as a Foreman before retiring in July of 1997. His work ethic was unwavering, and his leadership inspired many throughout his career. Robert’s contributions to his work were intertwined with his values of dedication and integrity, which he carried into every aspect of his life.
Beyond his professional life, Robert was deeply involved in his faith community. He was a cherished member of the Knights of Columbus Robert H. Jones Council and attended St. Alfred's Catholic Church, where he found connection and camaraderie. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him joy, including woodworking, tending to his flower garden, solving puzzles, and visiting the casino.
Robert is survived by Joanne, his beloved wife of the past 67 years. He was a proud father to his four children: Susan Flynn, Cheryl Matulonis, and Robert (Terry) Matulonis Jr and Steven (Pamela) Matulonis, along with 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, ensuring that his legacy will live on through the generations.
Also remaining to commemorate his remarkable life is his sister, Patricia Rutkowski, as well as Robert's dog and faithful companion, Jeffrey II, will also miss the warmth and friendship he provided.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Cass Matulonis. While he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the love he shared will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Robert will remember him for his kindness, strength, and the way he lit up the lives of those around him. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of his journey.
