Ruth M. Allen

Listen to Obituary

Ruth Mae Allen, born September 5, 1931, in Ecorse, Michigan, was the beloved daughter of Burton and Loretta Loveland. Growing up in Ecorse, Ruth worked alongside her brothers at the family business, Loveland’s Pharmacy. Summers spent with her Aunt Marguerite at Whitney Farmstead near Ann Arbor were cherished times that left a lasting impact.

A proud graduate of Albion College, Ruth further pursued her passion through nursing school at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. In 1964, she married Harold Allen at Ecorse Presbyterian Church. Ruth was deeply dedicated to her faith, actively participating in church activities, particularly as a music leader in Vacation Bible School.

Balancing family and professional life, Ruth took time to raise her children but returned to her calling by working in the maternity ward at Riverside Osteopathic Hospital until her retirement. She continued to serve her community generously, volunteering at a local food pantry linked to her church.

Preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents, and brothers Donald, Warren and David Loveland, Ruth leaves behind her sons Gary, Carl (Maleka), and Eric (Katy); her step-daughter Laurie; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. As the last of her generation, she was a cherished presence to many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her warmth and dedication touched many, leaving a legacy of love and service. The family is also grateful to Marcia Filek, Ruth’s longtime geriatric care manager and founder of Shepherd Life Care, LLC, whose compassionate guidance, advocacy, and steady support helped Ruth and her family navigate many years of care.
