Listen to Obituary

Sean Marshall, of Rockwood, passed away on April 23rd, 2025. Beloved son of Danielle and David, Nephew of Fred (Teresa) Marshall, Dan (Dana) Marshall, and Thomas (Gloria) Metcalf. Great Nephew of Bradley (Janice) Laesser and biological cousin of Gemma Mueller. Sean is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bruno Mondro, Gayle Mondro, David Marshall and Judith Marshall. He is survived by many loving family members and an immense community of dear friends, including his mentor, Chef Christian Borden, and his chosen brothers Mike Day and John (Charlotte) Yelinek.

Sean attended the culinary program at The Art Institute of Michigan. He eventually bowed out to join the opening teams of several restaurants, to gain working experience at the craft he fell in love with. After several stints opening and working in many highly acclaimed culinary destinations in Southeast Michigan, Sean began working as a self-described 'Rogue Chef. He went on to craft countless creative gastronomic experiences for the public, in pop-up formats that few chefs had ever attempted. He was a trailblazer in the culinary community, later executing multi-course dining experiences that defied the limits of a traditional restaurant, and told intricate personal stories through food. Following the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sean began to explore Korean culinary traditions, and his personal connections to them. In recent years, Sean worked tirelessly to bring his unique personal identity to the forefront of his cooking. Through that process, he created a deeply loyal following through his vision of what Korean-American food could be, and what it meant to him.

Whenever Sean was not cooking or working to build his culinary repertoire, he was spending time with friends. He found joy and creative expression through music, painting and drawing Sean was a talented craftsman, and worked with leather, wood, and other media. He frequently created intricate models and was a natural Dungeon Master, regularly joining his friends in playing D & D. Socially, Sean was a gregarious and charismatic figure. His was the loudest voice in the room, and anybody in his vicinity was instantly compelled to take part in his antics and join in on the fun he was having.
