It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sharon Louise Bondy, a cherished educator, beloved sister, and treasured member of the Monroe community. Born on April 9, 1938, in Monroe, she was the daughter of Edward and Loretta (Labo) Bondy and she peacefully departed this life in her hometown on April 17, 2026.
Sharon's dedication to teaching spanned an impressive 24 ½ years, beginning her noble career in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1962. After many years of inspired instruction and steadfast commitment to her students, she retired from Monroe Public Schools in 1988. Her passion for education was further enriched by her academic achievements; Sharon earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1962 and later a Master of Arts in 1980, both from Siena Heights University. Throughout her career, she was an active member of the Michigan Teacher's Association, Monroe Teacher's Association, and the Retired Teachers' Association, reflecting her deep devotion to the teaching profession and fellow educators.
Sharon was a devoted sister to Barbara Metzger, Kathy Abrams, and Bill (Jan) Bondy, who survive her and cherish her memory dearly. She was also survived by her sisters-in-law, Elaine Bondy, Agnes Bondy, and Barbara Bondy as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Sadly she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Beldren Bondy, Derwood Bondy, and Donald Bondy, as well as brothers-in-law Donald Metzger and Donald Abrams, whose memories she held close to her heart.
Per Sharon’s wishes, cremation arrangements have taken place. A Memorial Gathering will be held on April 24, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes-Allore Chapel; 203 E. Elm Ave. followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM. These events will offer family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives Sharon touched an opportunity to honor her invaluable contributions, warm spirit, and enduring legacy.
Sharon Louise Bondy’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her students and community, her steadfast loyalty to family, and her gentle, loving nature. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she is deeply missed, her spirit shines on in the hearts of those who loved her.
