Sharon Irene Small, née Roberts, sadly passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in Woodhaven, Michigan. Born on February 15, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, Sharon lived a life full of joy and generosity. She always made everyone around her, be it family, friends, or someone she had just met, feel welcome, valued and loved.
Sharon’s life was filled with love and cherished relationships. She was married to Ronald Small for 49 years, a partnership built on genuine affection, warmth, laughter and their love of music, until his passing. She was the daughter of Harry and Irene Roberts and sister to Jennifer Roberts, all of whom preceded her in death. Despite these losses, Sharon’s spirit never wavered; she found strength in family and the joy of surrounding herself with loved ones.
Sharon is affectionately remembered by her children—Katherine Andrews, Elizabeth (Craig) Sexton, and Michelle DeMaggio—and her grandchildren, Joshua (Sara) Andrews, Maxwell Sexton, Alexandra (Adam) Perrina, Samantha DeMaggio, Dominic (Brianna) DeMaggio, and Jaqueline DeMaggio. Her family was further blessed with six great-grandchildren: Amelia, Charlotte, Caleb, Ben, Daniel, and Jacob. Sharon’s home was alive with laughter and the warmth of family gatherings, which always included a menagerie of pets.
For over 42 remarkable years, Sharon was a beloved 4th-grade teacher at Hunter Elementary in Gibraltar, Michigan. Throughout her tenure, she touched the lives of countless children, guiding them with patience, kindness and a lot of singing. Her nurturing presence and creativity will forever be remembered by her former students and their families.Sharon’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on so many. She leaves behind a wealth of memories filled with love and devotion. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the light Sharon brought into the world will continue to shine brightly through the lives she touched. Her enduring spirit remains an inspiration, a lasting reminder of a life beautifully lived.
In lieu of a funeral a Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Also in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wounded Warriors or ASPCA.
