Born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, Sheila was the daughter of David and Emma (Hodge) Abraham. A graduate of Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, she married the love of her life, John Parriet, on July 12, 1980 here in Monroe. A dedicated homemaker, Sheila was a member of the VFW Post 1138 Ladies Auxiliary, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team and traveled around the country volunteering during hurricane disasters, earthquakes and at "Ground Zero" in New York after the 911 terrorist attacks. She and her husband also dedicated the past 5 years volunteering as foster parents through OMNI Family Services of Tennessee, helping neglected and abused children. Sheila leaves to cherish her memory, John, her husband of the past 38 years; her children: Steven Parriet of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Natalie (Nathan) Mills of Petersburg; two grandchildren Abigail Mills and Elijah Mills; her mother Emma Elizabeth Abraham of Monroe; as well as two siblings: Larry (Donna) Abraham of Monroe and Stephanie (Arthur) Sconochia of Monroe. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honor of Sheila are asked to consider the Family Counseling and Shelter Services of Monroe. FCSS focuses on family preservation and assuring access to all those in need regardless of financial circumstances and provides a safe haven for domestic violence survivors.
