Mrs. Shirley M. Cousino

Mary Shirley (Soncrant) Cousino passed away peacefully at her home in North Port, FL on June 13th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 98 years old.

Shirley was born on March 15, 1928 to Hamilton and Pearl Soncrant of Monroe, Michigan. She graduated from St. Mary Academy in Monroe in 1946. She married the love of her life, Dale J. Cousino, on May 8, 1954 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Monroe. They were happily married for 63 years when he passed away in 2017.

Shirley and Dale had three daughters, Renee Cousino-Marshke of North Port, Florida; Frances (Alan) Roberts of Newport, MI; and Therese (Donald) Wallace of Monroe, MI. She loved, and was loved dearly by, her grandchildren, Daryl (Amy) Marshke of Hartland, MI; April Marshke of Steinhausen, Switzerland; Michael (Megan) Roberts of Queen Creek, AZ; Andrew (Nicole) Roberts of Aurora, CO; John Wallace of Wolverine Lake, MI; and Bryan Wallace (Natalie Jung) of Albuquerque, NM.

Her great-grandchildren, McKenna, Preston, and Aurelia Roberts brought her much joy, as did her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great nephews.

Shirley was employed by Michigan Bell, and then later The Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, as a switchboard operator. During their retirement years, Shirley and Dale divided their time between homes in North Port, FL and South Rockwood, MI.

If Shirley wasn’t riding her bike, “Lollipop,” you could find her at home reading, knitting, crocheting, or watching murder mystery TV shows. She was also a talented seamstress who made her daughter's wedding gown! Shirley loved drinking coffee and dancing to all kinds of music. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was sharp as a tack, and incredibly generous. Her infectious laugh, heart of gold, and philosophy of “Life’s an Adventure!” will be carried in the hearts of all who loved her and will miss her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother and sister-in-law, Hamilton and Maxine Soncrant; sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Allan Wagenhauser; and nephew, Joseph Soncrant.
