Shirley Anne Doom (nee: Hebert), a cherished member of her family and community, passed away on September 1, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born in River Rouge on April 25, 1933.
Shirley was the beloved wife to her late husband, Richard Doom, for 52 years. The two met in high school. Together they shared five children; Robert (Nancy) Dow, Bruce (Elke) Doom, Mark Doom, Linda (Gene) Roma and Susan (Tim) Portscheller.
Shirley was the loving grandmother to 14, great grandmother to 28 and great, great grandmother to 1.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Bruckner and was preceded in death by her sister JoAnne Hebert.
Shirley played a pivotal role in her community as a founding member of St. Constance Catholic Church, in Taylor and held office in the Ladie’s Guild since the group’s inception.
She was just as involved in her city as she was her church. Shirley was a member of Taylor Senior Center and even started their bowling league. Her years of service on the Commission of Aging for the City of Taylor was approaching 30 years.
Shirley left an impression on the world around her and will be deeply missed by so many.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Allen Park Chapel – Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, September 8 at St. Constance Catholic Church. Shirley will lie in state at 9:30 and Mass will begin at 10:00 AM.
