Born in Lafollette, Tennessee, Sue was the daughter of Walter and Lucy (Broyles) Powell. She married Wilburn R. Hager in 1960. She then married Arvel R. Riggs in 1977. Sadly he preceded her in death in 1984. Sue worked at General Motors Hydromatic Plant in Toledo for over 29 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the UAW Local 14, LaSalle Missionary Baptist Church and attended Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. An avid Detroit Tigers Baseball fan, Sue also enjoyed Bible Study, Listening to Southern Gospel Music, doing Word Search and Sudoku Puzzles and Traveling. But most of all she enjoyed time spent with her family. Sue leaves to cherish her memory a daughter: Donna (James) Nuechterlein of Monroe; 2 grandsons Joshua McMann and Patrick McMann, Jr.; a great grandson: Patrick McMann III; as well as 2 brothers: Allen (Reba) Powell of Monroe, Walter (Joyce) Powell of Canyon Lake, Texas; and a sister Rosemary Tallent of Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Margaret Peay and Frankie Perkins. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honor of Sue are asked to consider the American Lung Association. Click on the multimedia tab to view Sue's video tribute.
