Susan N. Walker, née Szwarc, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in Taylor, Michigan, at the age of 83. Born on April 1, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Susan’s life was a radiant testament to warmth, caring, and steadfast devotion to the family she so deeply cherished.
Throughout her years, Susan poured her heart and soul into creating a loving home. As a dedicated homemaker, she built not just a house, but a haven where laughter could flourish and everyone felt deeply seen and held. Her gentle strength was the steady current that carried her family through every season, her love a quiet anchor in times of challenge and joy alike.
To those who knew Susan, what shone brightest was her wonderful personality—she was warm, tender, and wholly caring. Her genuine compassion touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. In times of celebration or sorrow, Susan’s door and heart were always open, ready to share in tears or laughter with equal grace.
Susan’s proudest accomplishment—and her greatest source of joy—was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Gerald "Jerry" Walker, whose partnership and love was an abiding presence in her life. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and resilience. She leaves behind four loving children: Catherine (the late Stephen) Oberdorf, Richard (John) Walker, Deborah (the late Chris) Beri, and Sherry Walker. In her children, Susan’s lessons of kindness and togetherness live on.
Her legacy extends to her grandchildren—Matthew (Crystal), Ashley, Jaley (Timmy), Christopher (Jennifer), Zachary (Amber), Tyler, Damion (Kimberly), and Kyle (Kiersten)—each of whom was touched by her encouragement and affection. Susan also delighted in the spirited company of her great-grandchildren: Jordan, Avery, Skylar, Christopher, Aria, Brayden, Noah, Langston, Claire, Lincoln, Chloe, and one on-the-way. Her unwavering support and affection shaped the lives of these generations, echoing her values onward.
While Susan’s passing leaves a profound emptiness, she is reunited with her dearly missed sister, Diane, and brother, Butch, whose memories she treasured deeply throughout her life. Susan was also preceded in death by her mother Elsie.
