Sylvia "Marlene" Voelker, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on November 25, 1939, in Monroe, she was the daughter of Oscar and Maudie (Dreier) Curleton. Marlene was a cherished member of her community, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will always be remembered.
A 1957 graduate of Monroe High School, she married the love of her life, Herbart Voelker, on January 21, 1964. Sadly her preceded her in death September 4, 2017. Marlene was a talented and driven woman who blended her creative spirit with her entrepreneurial prowess. She owned and operated several beauty salons, including Beauty Rama, Shear Power, and Creations Unlimited, where she touched the lives of many with her artistry and kindness. Additionally, Marlene spent over ten years as a licensed real estate agent, helping families find their dream homes, all while remaining a steadfast friend and support to her clients.
She was not just a career woman; Marlene had a deep passion for gardening, which brought her immense joy. As a Michigan State University Master Gardener, she cultivated plants and flowers that thrived in her care, closely connecting her to the earth and its beauty. This love for nature was a reflection of the nurturing spirit she embodied in every aspect of her life.
Her family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her two loving sons, James Voelker and Jon (Brenda) Voelker. Marlene found immense pride and happiness in her grandsons, Jonathon (Kelsey) Voelker and Garret Voelker, who were the light of her life. The bond she shared with them was unmistakable, filled with laughter and unforgettable memories.
Marlene also leaves behind her dear sister, Denise Cureton, who stood by her side throughout their lives, as well as her special nieces and nephews, who held a cherished place in her heart.
In addition to her husband, Marlene was preceded in death by her siblings, Darrell Cureton and Beulah Trouten, who left lasting impressions on her life, and her beloved Rottweiler "Budah", whose companionship brought her comfort and joy.
Marlene’s spirit will forever live on through the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the gardens she nurtured. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
