T. Michael Gilbert

T. Michael Gilbert, known to many simply as Mike, passed away on April 24, 2026. Born on November 26, 1946, Mike lived a full life marked by dedication, family, and faith.

Mike graduated from Southgate High School and went on to have a remarkable career spanning 30 years at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 2001. His passion for cars extended beyond his work, reflecting a lifelong interest that brought him joy.

On October 1, 1966, Mike married Catherine. Together, they built a family filled with love and support. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; their children, Philip (Nicole) Gilbert and Liane Gilbert; and grandchildren, Hailey VanTol and Elijah Pooley. Mike also leaves behind his siblings James Gilbert, married to Lynda, David Gilbert, and Frank Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Naomi Gilbert.

Mike was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton, Michigan, where he found community and spiritual strength.

Services in memory of Mike will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Rd in Trenton, MI. A prayer service will be held the same day at 6:00 PM. On Thursday, April 30, 2026, a gathering will start at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2623 3rd Street in Trenton, followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM to honor Mike’s life.

Mike’s family and friends remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. His life touched many, and his memory will live on through those who knew him.
