Teresa Sophia Mercier

Teresa Sophia Mercier, née Birg, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on August 2, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, Teresa lived a life marked by devotion to family and faith, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Teresa was the beloved wife of the late James Arthur Mercier Jr. She was born to John and Katherine Birg, who have also preceded her in death, along with her brother John , sister Betty, and daughter, Barbra (Mark) McKee. Throughout her life, Teresa embraced her roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with unwavering love and commitment.

She is survived by her cherished children: Linda (Dan) Wendlowsky, Jim (Cindy) Mercier, Dan (Diana) Mercier, Mike Mercier (Tom Orosz), and Dave (Jodi) Mercier. Her legacy extends to a large and loving family of grandchildren—Leslie, Adam, Jim (Angie), Tim (Bre), Becca, Christopher (KJ), Debbie (Robert), Jeff (Quinn), Daniel (Jen), Lisa (Matt), Stephanie, Kylen, and Ben—as well as many great-grandchildren: Atticus, Sebastian, Jim Jr., Madelynn, Maeve, Henry, Ronan, Marcus, Ethan, Nora, Ava, Landon, and Gabe. Each of them carries forward her loving spirit and the values she held dear.

A Mass to honor Teresa’s life will be held on June 13, 2026, 11:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, located at 20710 Colgate Street, Dearborn Heights, MI 48125. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate her memory and the profound impact she made in the lives of many. In state will start at 10:30 am.

Teresa Sophia Mercier’s life was a testament to kindness, strength, and devotion. As her family and friends come together to remember her, they hold close the enduring love and warmth she shared so generously throughout her lifetime. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
