Tommy lived for 66 years, 10 months, and 16 days. Tommy was born to Frank and Evelyn Hopson Plemmons on Sunday, November 13, 1955, in Herman Kiefer Hospital in Detroit, Michigan – not on a firetruck like he would tell everyone when he was a child.
Tommy was the youngest of the family. At the time of his birth, he had four siblings – two brothers and two sisters – Jack, Judy, Eddie, and Annette.
Those that preceded him in death were his parents, his brothers Richard and Jack. His partner of thirty-eight years, Jeanette "Kitty" Scott, passed away in 2011. His brother-in-law Allen Mayle and other dear family members and friends – one of those friends being Jim Barns.
Left behind to mourn his loss are siblings Judy Mayle, Eddie Plemmons (Pat), and Annette Plemmons. His granddaughter Erica (Chad Lowe) and his eight-year-old great-granddaughter Chastidy “Chase” Lowe. Nephews and nieces, Edward Ingle (Carmen), Cindy (Michael Garcia), Philip Ingle (Patricia), Debbie Mayle, Douglas Plemmons, Kimberly (Joe Lewandowski), Leslie (Bill Ballew), Jennifer (Ken Parrett), Eddie Plemmons, Michelle (Tom Foust), and several great nephews and nieces. Also mourning Tommy is his long-time friend Debbie Plummer and her family.
Tommy also had several cousins, there is one special cousin that should be mentioned by name and that is Steve Grzyb. As soon as Steve heard that Tommy had cancer, he wanted to be there for him. Steve was a wonderful caregiver to Tommy – he took Tommy to all his many appointments and he also helped with the chores around the house. Tommy wanted to stay at home and this could not have been possible without Steve’s help
Tommy was always a worker – when he was a boy, he did lawn work for several people in the neighborhood. When he stopped doing lawn work to take a job at a Texaco Service Station on Vernor Highway in Detroit, people were disappointed. Tommy liked lawn work, but his true love was cars. He eventually bought a home with a large backyard that he enjoyed working in until the day he found out he had cancer. That backyard also had a garage that he spent many hours in. That is where Tommy and his good friend Randy Webb worked on his beautiful 1980 Monte Carlo, which won many trophies.
Tommy retired on April 1, 2022, after forty-three years working for General Motors – the majority of the time he worked at the Romulus Plant. His last job title was engine analysis - it was a job he enjoyed – that is, all but the computer work. Tommy made a number of good friends at that plant.
Tommy enjoyed going to the casinos in Detroit, it was something that helped pass the time in the evenings for him. He also liked watching television shows about cars and other topics including American Pickers and WWE and several others.
Tommy passed away from Small-cell carcinoma which spread quickly throughout his body. He made up his mind to fight this opponent. Tommy along with many doctors and nurses and others throughout different areas of the Henry Ford Health Center fought diligently against this evil enemy but on September 29, 2022, it proved to be too strong. Tommy was appreciative of the excellent care he received from everyone involved. They not only treated Tommy well they were very kind and carrying toward his family members.
When Tommy first got sick his sister Annette ask him if he was to die that minute where would he go – Tommy answered Heaven because he had asked God to forgive him. Throughout his illness, he would say maybe God will help me get through this and Annette would always say, yes God would and God did. Tommy’s earthly story did not end the way those who love him wanted it to but all have to accept the plan that God had for Tommy. If you want to see Tommy, again make your plans to go to heaven too.
Tommy will be forever missed by many.
