Timothy Leo Sousa, born and raised in Detroit, passed away surrounded by love and laughter — just the way he lived his life. Known to most as Papa, Tim was the kind of man who could light up any room with a joke, a clever saying, or his signature laugh that made everything feel a little better.
He was the beloved son of Romey and Marie Sousa and one of eight siblings. He shared a lifetime of laughs, love, and stories with Michael Sousa (Barbara), June Blackburn (Whitey), Dorothy Werth (Paul), Adel Thompson, Fred Sousa (Maryanne), Karen Frabotta (Frank) , and Kay Sousa (Marvin).
Tim’s life was full of humor, heart, and unforgettable one-liners. If you knew him, you probably still find yourself repeating one of his classic sayings — and laughing every time. He didn’t take life too seriously, but he loved deeply and showed up for the people who mattered most.
He is survived by his loving children, Thomas and Heather, and his adoring grandchildren Steven, Matthew, Brandon, Alex, Cherlene, Victoria, and Racheal. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Anthony, Mariah, Aaliyah, Troy and Aubree — all of whom inherited a little bit of his sparkle.
Tim and his late wife Nancy also shared a lifelong bond with Gail and Richard. Together, they raised their families side by side – creating a connection stronger than blood. Lisa Garcia, Lorrie Hodnicki, David Garcia, and Andrea Jones (formerly Garcia) were like children to Tim. He is also reunited with Anthony Garcia who was like a son to him and held a special place in his heart. The memories they shared will live on as part of his enduring legacy.
Tim is reunited in peace with his beloved wife Nancy, daughter Kelly, grandson Thomas, daughter-in-law Debbie, and many other loved ones. We know he’s already cracking jokes and keeping the heavens laughing.
He was one of a kind — a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the life of every room. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and always celebrated with laughter.
