In Loving Memory of Turley Melvin Briscoe, Jr.
August 17, 1936 – November 17, 2025
Turley Melvin Briscoe Jr., 89, of Trenton, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wyandotte, Michigan, Turley was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley, parents, Turley and Janet(Cox) Briscoe, dear brother Richard, grandson Robert Briscoe Jr., and son in-law, Patrick Webb.
Turley is survived by his children, Mary Webb (Don Jackson), Robert (Gina), Barbara (Bill), Mikey Joe (Kelly), 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way, his sister, Virginia Shelton, and sister-in law, LaVerne Briscoe.
As a young boy working in his family’s confectionery store, Turley often noticed a girl and her mother who came in regularly. That girl, Shirley, always ordered a Cherry Coke. Their friendship blossomed in their early teens, and on July 9, 1955, Turley and Shirley (Kiraly) were married, beginning a beautiful journey that lasted 53 years.
Turley’s strong work ethic shaped his career. While working as a gas station attendant, he learned of an opportunity at Fisher Body Fleetwood. He joined General Motors on April 16, 1955, starting with a broom in hand on the factory floor. Through dedication, loyalty, and hard work, he rose through the ranks to become a Senior Manufacturing Project Engineer. After 43½ years of service, Turley retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence.
Turley and Shirley built a beautiful family life together with their children—Mary, Robert, Barbara, and Michael. Their days were filled with faith and togetherness, attending St. Timothy Church and sharing meals that always began with prayer. Family fun included swimming with the pool pass, skating at Kennedy Ice Arena, and celebrating every holiday as a cherished tradition. Dad provided guidance and discipline, while Mom made the house warm and inviting with her thoughtful decorations and delicious meals.
In his retirement years, Turley found joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He was a constant source of support and encouragement, always creating special moments he called “Golden Time” with both grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love and presence left an enduring legacy of family and togetherness.
Turley’s faith was central to his life. He regularly attended weekday Mass and prayed the Novena, finding strength and fellowship within his church family.
Golf was another passion that defined Turley. Did I mention four? He taught his children—and anyone willing to learn—the importance of playing “straight down the middle.” In golf scrambles, he always putted first, saying, “Let me show you the line.” He loved traveling with his son, grandchild, and friends to tournaments, and spent countless hours golfing with family and friends, joining leagues, and exploring new courses. Along the way, he found a lifelong friend in Larry Williams—his trusted “travel buddy.”
Turley also enjoyed dining out, and through these outings, he formed lasting friendships. One special connection began when Jeanie asked if he’d like to sit next to Gino and Myra; that simple gesture led to years of Monday dinners together, sharing stories from GM and Ford days.
He deeply appreciated his neighbors, who looked out for one another. A heartfelt thank you to Dennis and family, and Susie and family, for their kindness and care.
As Turley’s time drew near, his children—Mary, Robert, Barbara, and Michael—were guided with compassion and expertise by Hospice of Michigan. A special thanks to Kelly, Connie, and LuLu for their unwavering support during those final days.
