Virginia Hayes, age 94, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends on the 15th of December, 2018. Virginia was born on November 4, 1924 to Ida (Haltinner) and Edward Shepard. She lived in River Rouge, and attended Rouge High, graduating in 1942. She married River Rouge native Arthur J. Hayes, on June 5th, 1948, and shared over 70 years of wedded bliss with him. She took great pride and joy in being a mother, and raised 6 children. She and Art enjoyed traveling with the family. Virginia was an avid swimmer, reader and dancer. She and Art spent many happy hours on the dance floor. She enjoyed life to its fullest, and had a wonderful sense of humor, and a deep faith in God. Her smile, laughter, and beautiful blue eyes lit up any room that she entered.
She was a founding member of the Christian Mothers at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Parish (now Our Lady of the Angels), and an active member of Kiwaniannes of Allen Park. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia, daughter-in-law Linda, and brothers, Donald and Edward. She is survived by her husband, Arthur, and children: Scott, Sean, Maureen (Steve), Paul (Stefanie), and Ginny, 9 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, her sister, Marion, and sisters-in-law, Helen, Rose and Elaine, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
