Born in Berlin Township, Bill was the son of Harry and Alice (Johnson) Root. A graduate of Cooley High School in Detroit, he then faithfully served our country with the United States Navy-Coast Guard during World War II. Bill married the love of his life, Arleen Maier, September 20, 1947. Sadly she preceded him in death July 10, 2010.
Bill worked for over 38years at Monsanto Chemical in Wyandotte, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the South Rockwood United Methodist Church, Flat Rock Elks, Loyal Order of Free and Accepted Masons in Trenton, VFW Post 4230 Rock of Gibraltar, Rockwood Lions Club and the American Legion.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Robin (Dennis) Yarger of Flat Rock; two grandchildren: Scott Yarger and Kimberly (Bud) Fryman; as well as three great grandchildren: Talan Yarger, Alivia Fryman and Adleigh Fryman. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son Randy Root and two sisters: Helen Wilson and Marion Croniser.
