William Jankowski, age 77, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 9, 1948, in New Castle, England, William came to the United States at age five and made Detroit his lifelong home. He was the beloved son of the late Alojzy and Eileen Jankowski. A proud Marine, devoted father, grandfather, and brother, William was a pillar of quiet strength and love.
He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat — a testament to his courage and sacrifice.
Following his military service, William worked for many years as a dedicated truck driver. In his youth, he served as an altar boy at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Detroit, where he remained a longtime member. He was also active in the Wyandotte Marine Corps League.
William had a deep respect for military history, enjoyed Harley Davidsons, and loved playing pool. In his later years, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved fiancée, Roseanne Labelle as well as his sisters Angela Phipps and Michelle Jankowski. He is survived by his children: Elizabeth (Bret) Carver, William (Sirena) Jankowski, David (Nina Rendon) Jankowski, Bernadette Maldonado and by his beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Christine (Janie Bolanos) Jankowski, one niece, and two nephews.
William will be remembered for his loyalty, courage, and deep love for family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
