Planning Funeral Services

Planning a funeral service is an important task for the family. At the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, Inc., serving families in the Allen Park, Trenton and Monroe, MI areas, we are here to help you create the perfect way to say goodbye to a loved one and to support and help each other.

The Complete Funeral Service


The complete funeral service is the most commonly requested in most local funeral homes. This is a traditional funeral that includes either a public or private viewing, the service, and the burial of the casket, either above ground or in the earth.


With this type of funeral service, the funeral home can arrange all aspects of the service, help the family pick a casket of their choice and assist them with other necessary decisions. The choice of the casket is often a factor of the requirements of the cemetery, as is the requirement of a minimum grave liner. This is designed to support the ground around the casket in an earth burial. Vaults are also an option to consider and are sealed for additional strength and protection.


The Graveside Service


A graveside service is also a traditional option, and it typically follows a visitation time at the funeral home. The family and attendees gather at the cemetery for the funeral service rather than at a church, funeral home, or other location.


Cremation Service


When the family requests cremation, a complete funeral service can still occur. The local funeral homes can complete the service before or after the cremation. The remains can be present in a cremation casket, or the cremains can be present in an urn.


Urns can be decorative and designed for display, or they can be simple in construction and appearance if they are to be buried or the cremains are to be scattered.


In some cases, the family may request an immediate cremation. Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, Inc. can facilitate these requests and no embalming is typically required if the viewing and cremation can be completed the same day, or within less than 12 hours. We recommend consideration be given to allowing the family time to view the body to assist with the grieving process.

We are available around the clock, and we provide a full range of services to make this difficult time as easy as possible for the family. We work on your behalf to arrange all plans, obtain death certificates and permits, and to take custody and care of the body.


Our staff works closely with clergy members, arranges the service, ensures that all aspects of the graveside and the funeral service are in place, and provides transportation for the immediate family before, during and at the end of the funeral service. We also provide all necessary services if the body is to be moved to another location, including outside of the Allen Park, Trenton and Monroe, MI, areas.
